Help change the world in 42 minutes.

Lifeblood’s friendly and efficient clinical staff can get you in and out of our donor centers within a typical lunch break.

The whole blood donation process is divided into three phases.

Before
Lifeblood’s medical professionals will conduct a free mini-physical and check the donor’s blood pressure, red blood cell level, pulse and temperature. An FDA regulated interview will also be administered after the donor has completed a donor registration form.

During
The actual process of donating whole blood only takes about ten minutes, and can be repeated every 56 days. Donors may feel a small pinch for only a second. On average, one unit of blood is collected from each donor.

After
The donor is asked to relax and enjoy provided refreshments for about 10 minutes before leaving the collection area. It is important that blood donors stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activities for up to 12 hours after donating. All blood is typed, tested and processed according to FDA regulations and used to help patients in our local hospitals.

Platelet and Double Red donations
Due to the nature of the process, platelet and double red donations take a bit longer and can only be done in special locations where the necessary equipment is on hand. Check the donation center page to see which locations can accept platelets and double reds.
