Lifeblood’s Donor Centers will be closed in observance of Labor Day, which is Monday, September 6, 2010. Lifeblood is encouraging all eligible donors to visit Lifeblood before or after the holiday. As special recognition of its dedicated donors- any donor who attempts to donate at a donor center on the Friday or Saturday before Labor Day or the Tuesday after will receive a special Lifeblood gift pack (while supplies last).

(Memphis, TN) – Larry Frederick, who is bicycling across America in an effort he calls “Life Across America” to promote the importance of blood donation, stopped in Memphis on Monday, August 23, 2010.

Frederick partnered with Lifeblood to promote an all-day blood drive at the Memphis Police Department, 201 Poplar Avenue.  

Frederick was a police officer in Oakland, Calif., until August 21, 1982, when a drunk driver struck Frederick while Frederick was speaking to a stopped motorist.  Frederick required 110 units of blood and nine major surgeries to recover.  He was permanently disabled and had to retire as a result of his injuries.

Because of this, Frederick decided to devote his life to promoting the very thing that saved his life – blood donation.

Monday, he met with Memphis police officers, City of Memphis employees and Lifeblood staff to thank them for the important work they do.

“Larry’s story is phenomenal and inspirational, and we were so pleased to have him here to share it with us,” said Jason Sykes, director of marketing for Lifeblood, who organized Frederick’s visit.  “He has touched the lives of so many, and we appreciate his support of our work at Lifeblood and similar donor centers across the U.S.”

Community Blood Drive: August 20 from 4:30-8:00

LIFEBLOOD AND THE MEMPHIS REDBIRDS PARTNER TOGETHER

Lifeblood will be the featured non-profit on Friday, August 20 at the Memphis Redbirds game. The two orgranizations are working to raise awareness for the need of blood and blood products from volunteer blood donors.  The Memphis Redbirds will be hosting a community blood drive from 4:30-8:00 on the Plaza at the ball park. Lifeblood will also be featured throughout the ball park that evening.

WMC-TV Action News 5 is partnering with Lifeblood to hold a community blood drive on Tuesday, August 10 from 11:30 – 5:00pm at the downtown Memphis Court Square. The blood drive is in response to a low blood supply in the Mid-South community. The drive is open to the public and will feature WMC-TV’s own, Ron Childers. Their will be free snow cones, and gift packs for everyone who attempts to donate blood. LIFEBLOOD AND KROGER PARTNER FOR AUGUST PINT FOR A PINT PROMOTION 

Lifeblood’s annual “Pint for a Pint” promotion kicks off Sunday, August 1, 2010. Throughout the month of August, donors who donate a pint of whole blood, double reds or platelets at any donor center or mobile blood drive will receive a coupon for a free pint of ice cream redeemable at any local Kroger grocery store while supplies last.
