M*A*S*H Bash is Turning 18!

Monday, June 30th, 2014

As the country celebrates Independence Day, Lifeblood will honor the country’s retired and active military service members as part of its 18th annual M*A*S*H Bash Celebration taking place between July 4 and August 31 at all Lifeblood donor centers and mobile blood drives.

Lifeblood donor centers will be open regular hours, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4.  The Paul Barret, Jr. donor center, 1045 Madison Avenue, is closed on Fridays.

Volunteers who donate between July 4 and August 31 will receive a limited edition M*A*S*H Bash T-shirt, which they may choose to surrender in exchange for a contribution to be made to the Forever Young Senior Wish Organization toward a trip for World War II Veterans to visit the site of the Battle of the Bulge.

“Donating blood is a vital community service,” said Jennifer Balink, vice president of donor relations at Lifeblood. “M*A*S*H Bash is Lifeblood’s way of showing support for both veterans and active service members, our true community heroes.”

Balink added that the blood supply is critically low and Lifeblood is seeking donors of all blood types, especially O-negative, the universal blood type, A-negative and B-positive.

Madison Hargrove Memorial Blood Drive

Thursday, September 12th, 2013

September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month and City Auto and Lifeblood are partnering to host the Madison Hargrove Memorial Blood Drive on Friday, September 20. The blood drive will take place at City Auto (4932 Elmore Road) from 11am-3pm.

Madison Hargrove was only six years old when she passed away from Sickle Cell disease. Sickle Cell patients can require up to four units of blood per month for life, making the need for blood constant. Sickle Cell disease predominately affects the African-American community and research shows that blood donors with the same ethnic background provide the best match for those with the disease.

I Saved Lauren’s Life

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Lauren Larsen became a multi-gallon blood recipient during the near-fatal birth of her only child. Several of her actual blood donors talk about what it was like to meet Lauren—and her family—in person four years after helping to save her life. This narrative underscores the direct connection between blood donors and the people whose lives they impact. This blood donation advocacy video was produced by In The Telling with educational funding from Johnson & Johnson.
